Spawell Wellness Collective

Reflexology is the art of stimulating the body's own healing forces by locating and stimulating certain points on the body that affect organs or functions in distant parts of the body. It is a form of compression massage, using mainly the thumbs in a technique called "thumb walking". Reflexology is based on the principles that reflex points in the hands and feet are related to every organ and area of the body.

How Reflexology Works

By applying pressure to a reflex point, our practitioners can stimulate certain beneficial changes in a distant area of the body related to that point. For example, when manipulations are performed on certain points on the big toe, it is said to relieve headache and tension. Activating these links through stimulating reflex points can relieve tension, improve blood supply to certain regions of the body, and help to normalize body functions. When an organ is distressed, it becomes inflamed or congested. That inflammation triggers the brain to send messages down to the corresponding reflex point, creating inconsistent texture or sensitivity. Our practitioners feel for inconsistencies such as knots, harder areas, swelling, crunchiness, or an area that is sensitive. Maintaining good communication with your practitioner is important; we will regularly ask you if any point is sensitive.

Reflexology is not a cure-all nor can it be used to diagnose. It merely detects imbalance, congestion, or inflammation and can send messages back to the brain to affect the areas by sending endorphins and more circulation to that area. Additionally, many foot reflexology clients complain of plantar fasciitis, heel spurs, neuroma, fibroma and toe cramping. Your Spawell therapist will work with you to address such problems.

During your foot reflexology session, you will be comfortably seated in an adjustable lounge chair and your feet will be placed in a plastic-lined tub of warm water infused with certified organic dead sea salt. The client remains fully-clothed and a form of Chinese manipulative therapy called Tui-Na is used. In addition to work on the feet, attention is also given to the hands, arms, legs, neck, shoulders, and back.

We recommend that you arrive wearing loose-fitting clothing that allows full access to the lower legs and neck. Jewelry such as necklaces, bracelets, and watches should be removed before your session begins.

You have the option of choosing between three different dead sea salt soaks or you may request to blend all three together:

good for psoriasis, eczema, and inflammation

good for dry and sensitive skin

effective deodorizer and antiseptic
